How it works
Four steps, and a promise at the end of them.
- Start a diagnosis while the Mac feels slow.
The problem has to be happening. These are live counters, not a recording.
- Atlas watches for a bounded window.
Thirty seconds by default, up to five minutes. Stop it whenever you like — it keeps what it measured.
- Atlas explains what occurred.
What it saw during that window, and — just as clearly — what it could not measure.
- Atlas recommends what is worth doing.
And what to leave alone. Nothing changes without permission.
What it sees
Only your Mac's own counters, read locally.
Swapping and compression
Measured as rates during the window, not as totals accumulated since you last restarted.
CPU activity
System load across the window, and whether it rose while you were watching.
Application memory
What each application is responsible for — measured completely where it can be, and labelled a lower bound where it cannot.
Slow-moment changes
What moved during the window you reported as slow, separated from what was merely true before or after it.
Unavailable measurements
Named explicitly. A reading that could not be taken is reported as missing, never as zero and never as fine.
What makes it different
Most "Mac cleaners" are confident about things they cannot know. Atlas Care is built the other way round.
- No fake optimization score. There is no invented number out of 100, because there is nothing real to compute it from.
- No fabricated causation. Atlas Care says what happened during the same window. It does not claim one thing caused another.
- Unknown is never called healthy. If a measurement was unavailable, the report says so instead of assuming the best.
- System processes are not offered up as things to close. "Quit macOS" is not advice.
- Partial measurements are labelled. A total that could not be finished is shown as a lower bound, with the reason.
- A quiet result does not dismiss you. If nothing measurable happened, it says that — not that your machine is fine and you imagined it.

These observations happened in the same window. Atlas Care does not claim any of them caused the others.
What should not be touched
Leave a small background app alone — quitting it would not return enough memory to plausibly relieve the measured pressure.
Privacy and safety
Local-first
The diagnostic engine runs on your Mac and reads your Mac's own counters. Nothing is uploaded.
No telemetry
No analytics, no usage reporting, no crash collection.
No background daemon
Nothing is installed that keeps running. It watches only while you ask it to.
No continuous monitoring
There is no always-on agent, and no login item.
Read-only in 0.1.0
It cannot quit an application, stop a process, delete a file, or change a setting.
Action execution is not available yet
Recommendations describe what a person could choose to do. Carrying them out is your decision and your action.
Alpha status
Where Atlas Care genuinely is today.
- macOS only. It reads macOS-specific counters and does not work elsewhere.
- A command-line engine today. Atlas Care 0.1.0 runs from Terminal and requires Node 20 or newer.
- Command Center integration is in progress. The in-Atlas surface is being built now.
- Not an automatic cleaner. It explains and recommends. It does not act.
